Secondary Education

The Secondary stage at Coruña British International School will commence in 2022 and during this stage pupils will be encouraged to refine their critical, analytical and rational thinking skills, and to embrace the next phases of their academic education with confidence and enthusiasm. An Education in Values continues to form an integral part of our curriculum as our students begin to mature into confident, responsible and ethical young people.

The British curriculum is structured in such a way as to encourage excellent academic progress, self-motivation, hard work and perseverance, and students continue to develop their communication skills in English, Spanish, French and Galician.

We believe that responsibility and self-discipline are essential tools for the personal and academic progress of all the young people under our care, and students are provided with many opportunities to develop these skills throughout the secondary stage.

The key elements of the Secondary phase of the British National Curriculum are as follows:

  • Subjects are taught in English, Spanish, Galician, and French.
  • A focus on developing multiple intelligences.
  • Students learn how to work cooperatively with their peer group.
  • Students begin to study independently and take responsibility for their own learning.
  • Students follow individual learning pathways to ensure optimal progress.
  • Students sit prestigious international qualifications including IGCSE and A-Level.

Students following the Secondary curriculum at Coruña British School will receive support and guidance from specialist staff throughout their secondary education. Pupils begin to think about the subjects they would like to take for A-level, with up a view to planning further academic study at university and future careers in the world of work.
